چکیده

Construction of a real-time adaptive system is the research area in which hardware evolution methodology comes into its own, but of course it is also the most challenging area. Technological requirements for realization of such systems are not only high-speed evolution, but also steady and smooth evolution. This paper introduces two techniques, Progressive Evolution Model (PEM) and Diploid (DL) chromosome, which contribute to the satisfaction of those requirements in hardware evolutionary system AdAM (Adaptive Architecture Methodology). PEM is introduced to make the evolutionary process occur steadily; environments are changed in a stepwise manner, from easier to more diicult, so that evolution reaches eminence easily. When the environment changes, however, well adapted populations usually experience a drop in their top/mean tness values. Diploid chromosomes are engaged to quicken the recovery process from the drop in tness and to smooth the evolution; using that, the population is expected to maintain broad diversity so that a new path toward the optimum can be found easily. Four combinations of two variables | PEM vs. non-PEM, and Diploid AdAM vs. Haploid AdAM | are used to simulate an artiicial ant problem. The result shows the Diploid-PEM combination overwhelms the others.

Karyotypic Study and Chromosome Evolution in Some Iranian Local Onion Populations

Abstract A karyotypic study was performed on 12 Iranian local onion (Allium cepa L.) populations. A number of mitotic cells at metaphase stage for each population were prepared. Chromosomes of suitable mitotic cells were counted and various parameters, including long arm (L), short arm (S), total length of chromosome (TL), relative length of chromosome (RL), arm ratio (AR), r-value, total chro...

On Feasibility of Adaptive Level Hardware Evolution for Emergent Fault Tolerant Communication

A permanent physical fault in communication lines usually leads to a failure. The feasibility of evolution of a self organized communication is studied in this paper to defeat this problem. In this case a communication protocol may emerge between blocks and also can adapt itself to environmental changes like physical faults and defects. In spite of faults, blocks may continue to function since ...

Optimization of Beam Orientation and Weight in Radiotherapy Treatment Planning using a Genetic Algorithm

Introduction: The selection of suitable beam angles and weights in external-beam radiotherapy is at present generally based upon the experience of the planner. Therefore, automated selection of beam angles and weights in forward-planned radiotherapy will be beneficial. Material and Methods: In this work, an efficient method is presented within the MATLAB environment to investigate how to improv...

Modified Pareto archived evolution strategy for the multi-skill project scheduling problem with generalized precedence relations

In this research, we study the multi-skill resource-constrained project scheduling problem, where there are generalized precedence relations between project activities. Workforces are able to perform one or several skills, and their efficiency improves by repeating their skills. For this problem, a mathematical formulation has been proposed that aims to optimize project completion time, reworki...
